Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic PsychoTherapy and psychoanalysis

I offer psychodynamic and psychoanalytic relational psychotherapy for individuals (adults, adolescents, couples and families) seeking to not only discover solutions for their life concerns but also to gain greater understanding of their lives and to shift long-standing patterns in their relationships, career or inner life. In working with individuals my clinical expertise focuses on issues related to relational dynamics, challenging individual and/or cultural experiences, embodied experiences (e.g., physical health, addictive patterns, self-image, sexuality), life transitions and losses, concerns with achieving life goals as well as with expanding self-expression and creativity.

For individuals who are seeking sustained comprehensive engagement with themselves through therapy, which emphasizes deep psychic engagement with life patterns and life concerns, I offer psychoanalysis — a multi-layered and multi-dimensional approach to psychological treatment.

As a psychoanalytic clinician I deeply value multiplicities of human life and mind, including in expressions of emotions, desires, goals, culture, spirituality, meanings, sexualities, and vocation. I stress the importance of recognizing intergenerational dynamics and histories, as well as richness of culturally and individually unique ways of being human.

In my work I also emphasize understanding and integrating complications related to difficult interpersonal histories, varied traumatic experiences, social prejudices, significant physical and mental illness, addictive disorders, losses, or catastrophic life circumstances (e.g., disasters, life-threatening illnesses, wars). Recognizing the impact, making meaning, and exploring ways of individually integrating these past and present challenges toward relationally, culturally, and personally engaged life is central in my work.

I offer clinical services to families and couples who wish to explore and adapt their ways of relating to themselves and each other while honoring their distinct individual needs and goals.

I work with adolescents with developmental focus on helping them face challenges of teen transitions. In clinical engagement with adolescents, I specifically focus on immediate concerns of their adjustment and adaptation (including distressing symptoms) within a greater life context of helping them to develop a healthy and vibrant relationship to themselves, others, and the world.

Psychodynamic and relational psychotherapies are among the most long-standing and empirically supported approaches worldwide. They may stand in contrast with manualized, short-term, or solution oriented approaches that stress individuals’ thought and behavior control.

Psychoanalytically and psychodynamically based theories remain among the most scientifically examined and widely applied orientations in psychology, and have been successfully utilized not only as a form of psychological treatment but also in such areas as child development, business, organizations, the arts, literature, philosophy, politics, creativity, religion, work/career, financial management, education, sex, spirituality, health, and culture.
